Prepare the site around the proposed building
A house pad, shop pad or commercial building area needs to be considered in relation to the rest of the site. The structure footprint, driveway approach, existing ground and surrounding drainage are useful starting points. Share what you intend to build and where you want it located so the requested preparation can be discussed as a defined scope.
Site preparation may include clearing the work area, moving material and shaping the pad location as agreed. It is important to distinguish the ground-work scope from foundation design and construction. Your builder or design team should identify the plans, elevations and any specific testing or material requirements that apply.
For a new home, outbuilding or commercial structure, planning the sequence matters. Explain when the building contractor expects access and which other activities will happen first. Related clearing, driveway or drainage work can be included in the conversation without assuming every item is part of the pad quote.
